The Undateables 2017: Episode 4 Roundup (in which familiar faces make a return)

In the latest edition of the heartwarming Channel 4 show, some familiar faces from past series continue in their quest to find love.

POET SHAINE REUNITES WITH AN OLD FRIEND, BUT IS SHE 'THE ONE'?

When Shaine met Marie on The Undateables, he thought his quest for love was over. But three years on, following a two and a half year relationship, he finds himself single again: "I was gutted. I just loved every minute with Marie. It was magical. When it ended it was almost like I'm a ghost. I felt numb."

With months now passed, he's hopeful of meeting the right woman, and feeling positive about romance once more. "I would describe love as a sweet soothing caramel or a chocolate river," said the wordsmith.

There was a shock in store for Shaine when he received a call informing him that not only had a date been found for him, but it was with someone he knew back in school. "Tickled pink" to be getting an unexpected shot at telling his long lost friend Gemma that he'd had feelings for her back in the day, Shaine took a big hit of nerves as the big day approached. "I don't want to say the wrong thing. I don't want it going good and then flospy and pear-shaped."

There were a few awkward silences as Shaine and Gemma settled into their date at the Botanical Gardens, but Shaine stepped it up a gear, delivering a few of his best jokes that had Gemma eating out of his hand. Within a few weeks and as many dates, Shaine professed himself to be falling in love with Gemma, and read out a poem he had written for her at an open mic event.

As the lovebirds flew off into the night it looks as if this fledging love might be one to watch...

WHAT'S THE FASTEST CAKE IN THE WORLD?

A: Scone.

The joke that broke the ice on Shaine and Gemma's first date.

"WHEN SHE SMILES IT FEELS LIKE MY FEET ARE DANCING. IT'S LIKE YOU'RE WALKING ON A CLOUD OR BOUNCING ON THE MOON."

Shaine divulges his feelings for Gemma.

ALEX'S ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION DOESN'T GO QUITE AS PLANNED...

Despite believing that he'd found lasting love with Eloise, Alex finds himself single again after their two year anniversary celebrations don't go as planned.

Eloise has autism and gets anxious in new surroundings, and struggled to enjoy herself on their celebratory date to Margate's Dreamland.

"She's drop dead gorgeous and her personality is everything I could hope for. It's touch wood going strong," said Alex, after a few theme park rides put Eloise more at ease. This gave him the confidence to take the relationship to the next phase: "I'm in love with Eloise and I'm going to profess my love to her. I'm so excited that all the words to describe the excitement would probably take up about a thousand thesauruses."

Unfortunately, Alex was left disappointed, and though they continued to text one another after the date, three months went by with no meeting.

"I've been known to play many sorts of games on my computer, like racing simulation games...but right now the game I'm playing is the waiting game," said Alex.

"At least with a car if something's wrong with the engine you get a 'check engine' light come up on the dashboard."

Back home, meanwhile, Eloise admitted that she wants to continue her relationship with Alex just as friends.

A NEWLY-SINGLE RAY IS BACK ON THE MARKET...

When we last met Ray, he and girlfriend Janette were romancing it up in the French capital. But after four years, the pair decided they wanted different things and ended their relationship.

After deciding he was ready to move on, he took Crystal, who has Down Syndrome, on an open-top sightseeing tour of London. Crystal was soon won over by Ray's jokes, and impressed by his local knowledge they went on to a tea room to get to know each other better.

Ray is hopeful that he and Janette will keep in touch and meet for a second date.
