Being married to a Welsh chap (and hailing from the land of green, green grass myself) means it pains me to say that Welsh men are noticeably absent when it comes to lists of the world’s most romantic guys.
But what they lack in the romantic flair of the French, the passion of Spaniards or the slick charm of Italians, they make up for in their wit – even if their senses of humour are often at odds with what their womenfolk perceive as a romantic gesture.
As Paige-Ellen Williams can attest, the Welshwoman who was left baffled when a Tesco delivery driver showed up on her doorstep insisting that the several bags of groceries he was carrying were definitely addressed to her. Confused, she sent him away, but he shortly returned to say that he had spoken to her boyfriend Richard Selway, and that she was definitely the intended recipient of the surprise order he had placed.
On unpacking the bags, Paige found herself confronted with 12 packs of flour. At first she assumed her man was hoping she would turn master baker and whip up a tasty treat. But she quickly realised that this was her man’s idea of a joke.
“I was teasing him a few weeks ago telling him I deserved to have flowers delivered to the house after a pretty challenging day,” she told Wales Online. “I completely forgot I’d said anything to him about it.
“It wasn’t until the delivery driver left that I realised every single carrier was full of bags flour and the penny finally dropped.
“He’s usually very romantic and thoughtful and he’s a great daddy to our daughter Hazel," continued Williams. "But he has a wicked sense of humour. He’s very lucky I find him so funny!"
