The Way We Met Instagram feed celebrates love found in chance encounters

The heroine of classic 1945 movie Brief Encounter meets the love of her life when he chivalrously swoops into a railway station’s teashop and frees her eye of a piece of grit.

In 2015 the perception of love and dating is all too often dominated by right swipes and reality TV affairs. But an Instagram feed called The Way We Met is the perfect antidote to speed dating and intro emails sent en masse.

“It's sad because in a world where we have so many ways to connect, we're almost connecting so little. We're connecting so much online that we've actually become lonely,” said the Los Angeles based founder of the feed, Brooklyn Sherman. “I really want to encourage people to go back out in the world and live life again and experience things and meet with people face to face again and have authentic conversations.”

Featured stories include the couple that met in Starbucks, the pair whose eyes met across a karaoke stage, and the newlyweds who met on a train! But some of our favourites are below.
