Most unusual marriage proposals of all time

Thinking of proposing this Valentine's? Take inspiration from these creative thinkers who made going down on one knee into an art form.

1. THE MAN WHO SENT HIS GIRLFRIEND'S ENGAGEMENT RING INTO SPACE

Proving that his love is quite literally out of this world, Shawn Wright rigged up a weather balloon, attached a wooden spatula and a camera, and sent the ring he'd later propose with on a journey into orbit! He put the resulting video on YouTube with a note:

To My Fiance;

This is my way of showing you how much you mean to me.

I have been working on this project in secret, I hope you think it is as out of this world as you are.

I love you!

Ps... I owe you a Kitchen Spatula

2. MAN’S BEST FRIEND DELIVERS GIRL’S BEST FRIEND

Woman loves puppies. Boyfriend gives her world’s cutest puppy. Woman goes into meltdown. Boyfriend asks her to take a look at puppy’s collar. Woman discovers engagement ring. Meltdown complete.

3. WITH THIS TOOTH I THEE WED

When Lucas Unger and his girlfriend Carlee Leifkes talked about the possibility of marrying, Leifkes insisted that she didn’t need a diamond ring. So when Lucas popped the question – on Halloween, naturally – he presented her instead with a ring made from his very own wisdom tooth. “We have never been the ‘traditional couple’, why the heck start now?” Leifkes wrote on Facebook when announcing her acceptance of the ring to the world.

So incredibly excited to marry my best friend, the man who knows that his wisdom tooth means more to me than a diamond....

4. THE MAN WHO PROPOSED SECRETLY – 365 TIMES!

For most men, popping the question is a nerve-wracking affair they’re looking forward to getting over and done with as quickly as possible before hitting the champagne. Not so Dean Smith, who spent exactly one year proposing to his girlfriend on a daily basis - without her knowing anything about it. The romantic chap from Arizona photographed himself 365 times holding up a sign reading ‘Will you marry me?’ before presenting his girlfriend Jennifer with an album of the results.
