As professional matchmakers, we know that every dater secretly has a wishlist as they embark on a new dating journey. Perhaps they’re hoping for a partner with beautiful blue eyes. Maybe they want someone who shares a particular hobby or passion. Or it could be they just want that instant, indefiniable connection with that special person, the very second their first clap eyes on them.

We know that for many of our clients, cigarette smoking is a big one. And they’re not alone—a recent poll suggests that smelling of nicotine is one of the biggest turnoffs.
While there’s someone rather obvious inclusions in the list—bad body odour, lying, talking about exes, marriage and babies, and being selfish are naturally at the top of the chart of things unlikely to inspire a second date—there are some surprises too.
Natural skin tone is infinitely preferable it seems, as a bad fake tan makes an appearance in at number 18 on the list of 50 biggest turnoffs. Taking selfies is also best left until further down the relationship line—someone snapping themselves on their iPhone is the 21st biggest black mark.
Still living with parents, having rubbish taste in music and being rude to the waiters—they’re all best avoided if you’re looking for lasting love.
