The Undateables 2016: Episode 4 Roundup (in which we catch up with Alex, Ray, Brent & Sam)

For adults with disabilities, going through the stress of a blind date requires enormous amounts of courage. If those first dates turn into second dates, and seconds turn into long-term relationships, the next test of nerves comes in the form of that first holiday together.

In this recap edition of The Undateables: Holiday Romance, four familiar faces from the past pack their passports and prepare to put romance to the test overseas.

CATCHING UP WITH ALEX & ELOISE

"People stuck in traffic jams would get further down the road than I would with love," mused Alex when he recalled how his autism once made him too shy to approach girls. But one year after meeting Eloise through The Undateables, the couple were still going strong and about to enjoy a three-day break in France's Loire Valley.

It was to be the longest stretch the pair had spent together and Eloise in particular, who also has autism, was feeling the pressure. "I hope it will be fun and interesting. I'm someone who worries a lot...about trying new things," she admitted.

The stress of leaving her comfort zone proved too much for Eloise on occasion: "The only thing I can do is be like Bob Marley and tell her every little thing's gonna be alright!" joked Alex, and his relaxed demeanour helped Eloise pluck up the courage to jump on board a pedalo, try her hand at segwaying, and venture out for a romantic meal for two on the last evening.

Despite the roller coaster of emotions, the mini break was a roaring success. "I'd definitely love to see more of her as she is very gorgeous," said Alex.

"I FEEL MORE IN LOVE WITH ELOISE. ANY MINUTE NOW IT'S GOING TO START RAINING ROSES."

Alex reflects on a romantic weekend with Eloise.

"ON A SCALE OF ONE TO TEN I'D HAVE TO SAY ABOUT 500 BILLION."

Alex on how much he loves Eloise.

CATCHING UP WITH RAY & JEANETTE

Three years of infrequent dating since meeting on The Undateables had left Ray wanting more from his relationship, and so after much cajoling, Jeanette was convinced to board the Eurostar and spend a day in Paris. "It's the capital of love," Ray assured her, as he settled in for a snooze on the train while Jeanette took up her knitting.

In their matching orange and purple berets, the couple embarked on a whistle-stop tour of the city's most romantic sites. Suspicious of local cuisine, Jeanette wasn't happy when she took an accidental bite of a scallop, but there was no spoiling the day, and as the pair arrived back in the UK, the future looked rosy.

CATCHING UP WITH SAM

Part time actor Sam, who has Down Syndrome, met his first girlfriend Jolene on The Undateables three years ago. But after nine months of dating, Jolene unexpectedly broke things off.

As a group expedition to Finland loomed, Sam's confidence returned and he hoped the trip would lead to new love. His expectations were high: he was looking for a famous woman - ideally blonde and beautiful - with plenty of cash and a mansion at her disposal.

He soon met Chloe, who has a learning disability, and though there looked to be chemistry, the brunette talked herself out of a romantic encounter on a boat when she revealed that her husband-to-be must be at least six foot two inches tall. Sam - all five feet one of him - suggested that the pair might be better suited to friendship, and conceded that the trip had been successful after all.

CATCHING UP WITH BRENT AND CHALLIS

When we first met Brent on The Undateables, the verbal and physical tics brought on by his Tourette's made it extremely difficult for him to talk to girls. All that changed when he met the lovely Challis and the pair went from first date to co-habitation to engaged within a matter of months. A wedding in Vegas later and the pair were back on the show to celebrate their first wedding anniversary with a trip to Amsterdam.

Travelling can often make Brent's tics worse, but his newfound confidence and security has enabled him to find coping mechanisms. As the pair sipped champagne canal-side, they pondered the question of having babies. There's a 50% chance that Brent could pass his condition onto any future children he has with his new wife, but if that were the case, reasoned Challis, they'd have a perfect role model for managing the condition in the form of their dad. We couldn't agree more.

"IF I HADN'T MET CHALLIS I'D PROBABLY STILL BE UNDER MY BED, HIDING FROM THE WORLD."

Finding true love has given Brent a huge sense of stability and confidence.
