There's a reason for the term 'spring fever'. As nature conspires to give us those extra hours of longed-for daylight, human beings undergo a whole host of psychological and physiological changes resulting in renewed hope and optimism - all in all making it the perfect time of year to let go of the past and look forward to a future of budding romance and long term love.
As joyful as they are to behold, the daffodils and crocuses poking their heads through the earth to carpet our parks aren't the reason why we all feel more cheerful. But the reason for their blossoming gives us a clue to why we're suddenly, collectively as a human race, feeling renewed hope, energised and invigorated, believing anything could be possible.
Those three extra daily hours of daylight
we'll be treated to over the coming weeks work to boost the natural levels of
feel-good brain chemical seratonin. It's the stuff that's
packed into anti-depressants, and the boost to our levels we'll all be
experiencing is nature's own way of pulling us out of the doldrums and making
us feel alive and awake following a period of wintery hibernation. The benefits create the most virtuous of circles - as we begin to feel better, we'll likely engage in more exercise and outdoor
activity, which in turn leads to a further boost of the happy hormone, making
us feel lighter, happier and more carefree.
What's all this got to do with love and dating? Well at Spark Of Love we believe that the best time to meet someone is when you're happy, optimistic and hopeful that the perfect person is indeed out there for you somewhere.
So while you're spring cleaning your wardrobe and your kitchen cupboards, putting away those blankets and the box sets that saw you through the darkest days of winter, take some time to do a little spring clean of your mindset too. Think about all the reasons why you deserve to find love and happiness, all the things you're capable of offering someone, and why past mistakes in love will only serve to make you stronger and make better decisions in the future.
