The great lovers series: Prince Harry & Meghan Markle

Come May 2018, theirs will become the fairytale wedding that has us all waving our bunting and reaching for our Union Jack hankies. So what's the skinny on this special couple?

THERE WAS NO MESSING ABOUT FOR THE PRINCE AND FUTURE PRINCESS

Harry told the BBC that he knew Meghan was 'The One' the first time he clapped eyes on her. And despite being one of the most eligible bachelors in Britain, the Prince knew he'd have to up his game if he was going to score this beauty's time and energy. So following that first 'blind date' he didn't hang about ensuring there was a second in the diary. "We should meet again," is the line the insistent Prince is said to have delivered just moments into that first encounter. And when schedules threatened to keep them apart, he persisted until Meghan agreed to join him on a camping trip in Botswana, where the pair continued getting to know one another under the starry skies.

THEY KEEP THEIR DATES LOW KEY

Okay maybe not as low key as the rest of us—few and far between have been spottings of Harry and Meghan enjoying the 2 for 1 curry night at their local Weatherspoons. They have, however, been pictured enjoying nights out on the West End (watching The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Nighttime), followed by dinner in Soho House.

PUT THE PROCLAIMERS ON THE RADIO

Okay, he didn't walk 500 miles to see Meghan, but Harry did reportedly drive 100 to ensure his girlfriend and fiancé-in-waiting could attend the evening do of Kate's sister, Pippa Middleton's wedding to James Matthews.

SHE'S JUST A HAPPY-GO-LUCKY CALIFORNIAN GIRL

She might have become one of the most famous women in the world on account of her relationship status, but Meghan says that being bride-to-be to the man she loves is just a lucky bonus. Talking to Vanity Fair, she said: "We're two people who are really happy and in love. We were very quietly dating for about six months before it became news, and I was working during that whole time, and the only thing that changed was people's perception. Nothing about me changed. I’m still the same person that I am, and I’ve never defined myself by my relationship."

HARRY DESIGNED THE RING HIMSELF

He has access to presumably one of the world's greatest collection of sparklers and rocks, but instead of just asking his gran for a poke around the family jewels, Harry decided to design a ring himself. It contains two diamonds from his mother's personal collection, and a stone from Botswana where he and Meghan enjoyed an early date.
