In pictures: Adorable comic reminds us that true love is in the little things

As Valentine's Day approaches, romantic love comes under the annual spotlight. But an adorable comic series reminds us that everlasting love isn't about diamond rings and sunset strolls. It's about the little things in life we can share as a couple, whether that's ordering in a takeaway to cuddle with, or getting frustrated together over the instructions for flat pack furniture.

The cartoons, by artist Philippa Rice have now been made into a book called Soppy - a word she defines as "somewhere between schmaltzy, sentimental, sappy and silly" - and are all based on Philippa's real life romance with her fellow artist and live in boyfriend Luke Pearson.

"I try and write down or draw an small, silly or funny thing that happened that I might want to read back and remember," the Bristol-based artist told The Huffington Post. "All the things that I've illustrated in 'Soppy' have happened in my real life."

ACCIDENTAL CUDDLES - WHEN YOU WAKE UP AND FIND YOUR BED PARTNER CURLED AROUND YOU - ARE A HALLMARK OF TRUE LOVE.

THEN THERE ARE THOSE TIMES WHEN INSTEAD OF CLEANING UP AFTER BREAKFAST, YOU KICK BACK AMONG THE CRUSTS AND CHAT OVER A CUPPA.

SOMETIMES LOVE IS ABOUT COMPROMISE - LIKE WHO GETS TO SHOWER FIRST. OTHER TIMES, IT'S ABOUT SHARING...

CUDDLING ON THE SOFA, OR JUST DOING THE GROCERY SHOPPING - SPENDING TIME TOGETHER NEEDN'T ALWAYS BE ABOUT CREATING FIREWORKS.
