As Valentine's Day approaches, romantic love comes under the annual spotlight. But an adorable comic series reminds us that everlasting love isn't about diamond rings and sunset strolls. It's about the little things in life we can share as a couple, whether that's ordering in a takeaway to cuddle with, or getting frustrated together over the instructions for flat pack furniture.
The cartoons, by artist Philippa Rice
have now been made into a book called Soppy
- a word she defines as "somewhere between schmaltzy, sentimental, sappy and silly" - and are all based on Philippa's real life romance with her fellow artist and live in boyfriend Luke Pearson.
"I try and write down or draw an small, silly or funny thing that happened that I might want to read back and remember," the Bristol-based artist told The Huffington Post. "All the things that I've illustrated in 'Soppy' have happened in my real life."
