Her intern asked her out but she declined. And so he asked again. And again. Until eventually Michelle accepted Barrack's offer of an ice cream in the park...
After buying Michelle an ice cream, Barrack went in for a kiss. "On our first date, I treated her to the finest ice cream Baskin-Robbins had to offer, our dinner table doubling as the curb. I kissed her, and it tasted like chocolate," the president told Oprah Winfrey. The exact spot of the kiss - the corner of Dorchester Avenue and 53rd Street - is marked with a plaque commemorating the special moment.
Back in 1989, the Obamas first trip to the movie theatre was to watch the Spike Lee comedy, Do The Right Thing - a frequenter of best movies of all time lists. That date, complete with a nose around an art museum and that chocolate-flavoured kiss, is the subject of a film of its own. Southside With You, released in August 2016, takes place over just one day, and shows Michelle resisting Barrack's many advances and teasing him about his big ears, telling him they'd look good if they were on Dumbo!
"Roses are red, violets are blue, you are the president and I am your boo,” Michelle recited when she appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Her husband responded with his own verse: "I Obamacare about you more than you even know!"
“When I see him get off Marine One and walk into the White House…It's mm, mm, mm!” Michelle gushed about her husband during a TV interview. “And you know, he has that walk, right? He was very swagalicious.” You only have to see the way Barrack looks at his First Lady to know he feels exactly the same. POTUS and FLOTUS sitting in a tree…
