Blind date success stories: famous couples who called in the matchmakers

If you're thinking of enlisting Flame's services, you might be wondering about the success rate of relinquishing control over your dating life and letting someone else do the hard work for you.

Well suffice to say we've plenty of stories of engagement announcements dropping into our inbox from past clients who've gone from coffee to cohabiting at breakneck speed thanks to the careful planning of our professional matchmakers.

But as if that's not enough, there are plenty more tales of celebrities who've entrusted someone else in their lives to set them up on a date that's rocked their world to the core...

1. TOM BRADY AND GISELE BüNDCHEN

They're so impossibly perfect looking that it's tempting to imagine their first meeting involved a locked gaze across a room crowded with other impossibly perfect looking Hollywood types. With a spiral staircase and a string quartet thrown in for good measure. The refreshingly honest truth is that a friend gave Brady a quick buzz to tell him that he knew someone who was "a girl version of me". Did he fancy a blind date? Hell yes, he did, replied Brady. After all, it's not every day you get to wine and dine the world's highest paid supermodel. The pair have been married since 2009 and have two children.

“There was nothing starry about the way we got together. It was very un-Hollywood-esque, in fact. We met and got talking. Afterwards I asked my friend if I could call her and ask her out. My friend called Jessica and Jessica said yes, and so I called her. I did it the old fashioned way—by telephone.”

2. JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE AND JESSICA BIEL

They met, they chatted and that was about it. Except JT was smitten and couldn’t risk his wife-to-be getting away. So he called up their mutual friend and asked what she thought. Hold on a minute, she said, I’ll just give her a ring. Whatever she said convinced Jess that a date should be on the cards, and thanks to her running interference, the pair hooked up and shacked up in quick success! The pair have just celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary.

3. PETE SAMPRAS AND BRIDGETTE WILSON

What does an international (and single) tennis world record holder do between championships? Why he hangs out at LA movie theatres with his chums of course. Back in the 90s, Sampras was on a boy’s night out at the flicks when he spotted a girl he rather liked the look of across the auditorium. He nudged his friend, and as luck would have it, his friend knew someone who knew someone who knew said knock-out. A couple of calls later and Bridgette—who confessed she had no idea who Pete was, having never watched a day’s tennis in her life—agreed to meet the “cutie” she was shown a picture of. Pretty soon she and the world champ were putting the love into court-ship, and the rest, as they say, is grand slam history.
