But one brave lady who’s had to contend with hair loss all her life, was determined not to hide behind a fake veneer when she appeared on Channel 4’s First Dates.
“I don’t have any hair,” she said, whipping off her wig to reveal a bold and beautiful tattoo on her head, and leaving her date—teaching assistant Jordan—open-mouthed.
“Oh wow!” was all he could mumble at first.
“I’ve got alopecia so my hair, it just falls out,” explained 22-year-old Eve when the waitress questioned her decision to wear the wig.
“It suits you,” Jordan managed once he’d collected himself. “Keep it off,” he urged when Eve made to recover herself. “You look beautiful.”
Eve explained that as a child with no hair or eyebrows she was bullied by other children, and though she found the experience painful, she’s determined not to pretend to be something she isn’t.
Still worried that she’d caught Jordan off guard, Eve apologised. “This is probably like the weirdest date you’ve ever been on,” she grinned.
“It’s the best date I’ve been on,” Jordan corrected. “I like you. You’re unique.”
The right response, and hopefully the start of a relationship as beautiful as Eve.
